Technical University Vienna is Austria’s largest scientific-technical research and educational institution.  The Computer Vision Lab (CVL) was formed in 2010 and its areas of active research are: 3D Computer Vision, Neural Networks and Adaptive Methods, Image Sequence Analysis, Multispectral Imaging, and Document Analysis.  The Computer Vision Lab is involved in several projects which are dedicated to Document Image Analysis (DIA) including Automated Virtual Reconstruction of Ripped Stasi Files and The Sinaitic Glagolitc Sacramentary (Euchologium) Fragments.  Knowledge in the fields of layout analysis, table recognition, and writer identification which was gained within these projects will feed into the READ project. 

Key responsibilities in READ: Layout analysis, Writer identification and retrieval, Development of large data set – ScriptNet.   ScriptNet will offer the largest data set which has ever been produced in computer science for stimulating research in HTR and related technologies.
